Wise Women Gathering Place
OUR OTHER PROJECTS
Midwifery
Alice and Bev are our midwives. If you have any questions on pregnancy, labor, delivery and infant care, these two can help you. The Wise Women reference library, housed at our office, has dozens of videos, books and other resources to help you. We do not check out our materials, but we are more than willing to make copies of what we have and you are invited to spend as much time as you'd like looking through our collection. Due to the increasing amount of projects, neither Alice or Bev are currently taking on new births. Wise Women does keep a list of several local midwives in Brown and Outagamie counties in Wisconsin. We are more than happy to share this information with you.
Herbs
The Midwives Shoppe at Wise Women Gathering Place used to have a large variety of herbs for guests to purchase. Today, those herbs are still available but the Shoppe has been replaced by our growing office space. If there is an herb you looking for, gives us a call and we can help you. Also, Wise Women sells Judy's Herbs, tinctures, salves and teas made by our very own Judy, who has her own side business creating herbal remedies for just about everything you can imagine.
C-BAC Abstinence Class
The Community-Based Abstinence Culture program (aka Abstinence Class) was part of our 5 year grant from the US Dept of Health and Human Services. The program started with the 2002-2003 school year and recently ended with the 2006-2007 school year. The classes were held as part of a regular school week, two days a week for one class period, at the Oneida Nation Elementary School and the Menominee Tribal School. Our program was targeted at 8th graders. Initial results from our evaluation of the program indicate that having an abstinence class positively impacted the students who participated in the program. Native DREAMS Summer Camp
In addition to the C-BAC class, our students had the opportunity to attend a summer camp program held at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay each summer from 2003 to 2007. The goal of the program was to reinforce the abstinence message that was learned during the school year and to create a video, usually a public service announcement that aired on local television in Green Bay, WI. In fact, the PSA created by the students at the 2004 Summer Camp went on to win a national award at a film festival in New York. To see the PSA from the 2005 summer camp, click here.
Rock'n'Rest Stations
The Rock 'n' Rest Station offers services specifically geared for the youngest patrons and their care givers at these events. We provide diaper changing tables, infant feeding and nursing areas, infant play areas, napping areas and much more. In addition, users of the Rock 'n' Rest Station will be able to try some of our programs including: Virtual Date, a healthy relationship skills game; Parent-Teen Encounter, a healthy family activity; and meet with local midwives. Wise Women holds these stations at local events such as International Bay Fest, the Oneida Family Carnival, the Oneida Powwow and ArtStreet, just to name a few.
